Franklin Associates is seeking a Proposal Writer to support our growing disaster recovery, grant management and strategic advisory services business. Over the past 18 years, we have supported state and local government clients throughout the United States to implement a wide range of programs including: disaster recovery, climate adaptation, public health, transportation, and land use planning. As our work expands, we are looking for a creative, persuasive writer to work with our business development team and senior staff to develop compelling proposals in response to requests for proposals from state and local governments throughout the United States. This position requires in person presence in our Baton Rouge office. 

Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Reviewing local, state, and federal government proposals and creating compelling responses that showcase firm qualifications, personnel, relevant work experiences, and firm’s overall understanding of the proposed scope of work in a way that aligns the response to each carefully selected win theme  

  • Translating request for proposal (RFP) requirements to create robust response outlines within the firm’s pre-formatted response templates 

  • Researching, writing, and organizing information in a way that braids the firm’s expertise with the proposed scope and positions the firm 

  • Creating and following response schedules for each proposal inclusive of: reviews at different stages of the proposal process, graphics timelines, printing dates if applicable, key dates from the solicitations, and any other key dates that are pertinent to the response at hand  

  • Updating, revising, and creating project descriptions of all past and current work done by the firm to use both internally and externally 

  • Conducting interviews of subject matter experts to translate their work into compelling copy 

  • Editing and revising proposals according to feedback 

  • Working with the design team to create graphics and visuals for projects.

  • Developing marketing materials including blog posts, white papers and printed marketing content 

  • Other writing assignments as needed. 

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, or related field or related 2+ years of experience in journalism, proposal writing, grant writing, and/or technical writing   

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office including Word and PowerPoint with the ability to create templates and edit styles and tables 

  • Ability to think critically and creatively when working with unfamiliar subject matter 

  • Excellent computer and organizational skills, as well as attention to detail

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to meet deadlines 

  • Strong strategic planning abilities

  • Experience interviewing technical subject matter experts to translate technical requirements into compelling and persuasive prose  

  • Ability to work with design team to develop graphics and visuals to convey complex ideas in easily understandable manners. 

Preferred Skills

  • Previous proposal writing experience

  • Previous experience in disaster recovery, climate adaptation, strategic communications, or federal grant management industries  

  • Ability to develop illustrative graphics and visuals to convey complex ideas

  • Proficiency with Adobe Suite including InDesign and Illustrator.
